The Contacts and Calendar can be backed up in two ways: by using the SD card, or the up mentioned Android cloud.
For the SD card:
Go to the People application.
Press the Menu button.
Tap on the Import/Export icon.
Choose Export to SD card.
You can now transfer the files on your PC / MAC. To get it back, follow the same steps above and on the last part, choose Import from SD card.
In order to use the cloud, you should sync with Google; here is what you must follow:

SMS / MMS messages and call logs
Here, you will use the first software found on the Android Market. Download SMS Backup + by Jan Berkel; it’s free, so you shouldn’t have any problems getting it. The application will use a separate label in Gmail/Google Calendar and allowing later restoration. You need to have IMAP enabled in Gmail and the correct time zone set.
Saving Market Apps
For saving the Market Applications, download the Astro File Manager, also found on the Market, for free. Then follow:
Open Astro.
Press Menu.
Tap on Tools.
Select the Application Manager / Backup.
Select the apps you want to save and click Backup.
In order to restore them, install Astro again and follow the same steps. Then, click “Backed Up Apps” and choose what you want back on your HTC Sensation.
